Ingredients
  • 1/2 c lard (I use shortening it makes it flakier, besides, "the girls" started using shortening when they baked for their own familes)
  • 1/4 c boiling water
  • 1 1/2 c flour
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp baking powder

Directions
  1. Have lard (shortening) at room temperature, put in bowl and add boiling water.
  2. Stir with a fork until creamy.
  3. Add flour, sifted with salt and baking powder
  4. chill
  5. Makes one two crust pie

I still use crisco, you just can't beat it for pie crusts, biscuits and cornbread! I remember my grandmother having those big buckets of lard. Fantastic post!
