Hungarian Cabbage With Noodles Recipe

Hungarian Cabbage With Noodles Recipe
This is a great casserole to serve as a main course or as a side dish. Great on a buffet table and feeds lots. Easy to make, standard, inexpensive ingredients. What more could we ask for in a casserole?

Ingredients
  • 5 slices bacon, diced
  • 2 tsp. sugar
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • 6 cups chopped cabbage (1" squares)
  • 3 cups cooked noodles (4 ounces uncooked)
  • 1 cup sour cream
  • Paprika

Directions
  1. Sate bacon until crisp in large frying pan. Remove bacon; set aside. Stir sugar and salt into bacon drippings. Add cabbage, stirring until cabbage is coated with bacon drippings. Cover and cook 10 minutes. Add cooked noodles and bacon stirring to blend. Adjust seasoning to taste.
  2. Spoon into a 2 quart casserole; cover tightly and bake at 325 F for 45 minutes. Sopread sour cream over top of casserole; sprinkle with paprika and return to oven for 5 minutes more.
  3. I usually fry about a 1/2 lb. of bacon, put half in the casserole and reserve the other half and sprinkle on top at serving time.

Ooooooooooo yummmmmm this one sounds good jill i bookmarked it im gonna try it soon

Very similar to a Polish recipe that my Mother-in-law once prepared. EXCELLENT!

This is very similar to a version that I'm familiar with. I like the fact that your recipe is a casserole which lets you do it a bit ahead of time and as you say it would be great as a take along dish. The interesting thing is that your recipe has long noodles and square cabbage and my recipe has shredded cabbage and square cut noodles! Yours has bacon and I like that better.

This sounds yummy - great post...
