Perfect summer-time treat topped with fresh strawberries and whipped cream. In the winter, add sliced bananas or serve ala mode (add hot fudge sauce if you dare!)

  • 6 ounces (7/8 cup) semi sweet chocolate chips
  • 1/2 cup boiling water
  • 1 cup butter
  • 2 cups sugar
  • 4 eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 21/2 cups flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup buttermilk

Directions
  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Grease a large tube pan or Bundt pan.
  2. Melt chocolate chips in in boiling water, stirring until smooth.
  3. In large bowl of an electric mixer, cream butter and sugar. Beat in eggs one at a time. Then beat in vanilla and melted chocolate.
  4. In a seperate bowl, sift together flour, baking soda and salt. Add flour mixture to chocolate mixture alternately with the buttermilk, scraping down the sides of the bowl after each addition.
  5. Pour batter into tube pan and bake for up to 90 minutes, checking after 60 minutes with a toothpick inserted in the center. Remove from oven when tester comes out clean.
