This is a favorite cocktail in the Southwest and it is so easy to make. I pick my own prickly pears in Sedona, AZ during the spring and make enough to last all year and some extra to give as gifts to my family and friends.

Ingredients
  • 6 fresh prickly pears
  • 750 ml tequila

Directions
  1. Peel and cube fresh prickly pears. Place tequila and prickly pear in a sealed container (non-metal). Refrigerate for 3 days. Puree and strain mixture. Mixture can be kept in fridge for about 1-2 weeks or can also be frozen.
  2. If you plan to pick your own prickly pears here are some tips: Small, young pads harvested in early spring are thought to be the most succulent, delicate in flavor, and have the fewest spines. The thicker a pad, the older it is; these tend to be stringier and their sap will be thicker, which some people find unpleasant.
