How to make it

  • In a large saucepan over med./high heat,saute onions and garlic in oil until onions are carmelized.Add tomato paste, salt, pepper and basil and cook til it starts to bubble.But stir often. Then add water and cook til paste is dissolved,stirring often. Let simmer for 30 min. Stir well and taste for seasoning. Adjust as needed. If sauce tastes too acidic, add a large pinch of baking soda(this sweetens the sauce) Stir and taste again.
