How to make it

  • In large saucepan melt butter, blend in flour. Cook and stir until golden brown (make a roux).
  • Stir in onion and garlic. Saute until onion is translucent.
  • Stir in undrained tomatoes, green pepper, bay leaves, oregano, thyme, tobasco, 1 1/2 cups water and tsp salt.
  • Bring to a boil. Reduce heat and simmer covered for 20 minutes
  • Remove bay leaves
  • Stir in shrim and crab and heat through (about 7 minutes)
  • Remove some a ladel full of broth from the pot. Bled the file powder into the hot broth. When blended return broth to the pot. Stir until combined.
  • Serve over rice
