How to make it

  • Combine dry ingredients and mix well.
  • Add buttermilk, egg and butter.
  • Stir until moistened but don’t beat.
  • Pour into (HOT) greased iron skillet.
  • Bake at 425 degrees for 20 to 25 minutes or until golden brown.

    Remember your oven mitts…this is a winner…I made it just as written and every last piece was eaten. I took the pan out of the oven at 20 mins and it seemed perfect!

    Oh yeah, Cornbread WITHOUT corn nibblets in it, now THATS real country. Gotta love those iron skillets, not only do they work great as cooking equipment, but they make great self defense weapons as well.

    Sounds great and like my mother used to bake when I was a child. She used an iron skillet also that she had pre-heated in the oven to make the bottom of the corn bread crisp. Nothing quite like it with a nice chunk of butter! Thanks for sharing this great recipe.
