Found this in an old recipe book that I have. Can't give you prep time.

Ingredients
  • Mix together:
  • 1 cup lukewarm buttermilk
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • 1/4 teaspoon soda
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 3 tablespoons soft shortening

Directions
  1. Crumble into mixture 1 cake compressed yeast or 1 package dry yeast.
  2. Stir until yeast is dissolved.
  3. Then add 2 /12 to 2 3/4 cups flour, adding in two additions, using amount necessary to make dough easy to handle.
  4. Turn dough on floured board, cover, let stand 10 minutes to tighten up, then knead until smooth.
  5. Cut in any shape, cover, let rise at 85 degrees until double in size, for 1 to 1 1/4 hours.
  6. Bake in hot oven (400 degrees) about 15 to 20 minutes.
  7. Makes about 1 1/2 dozen.
