Old country German cake recipe, rivels are the crumb like mixture topping the cake

Ingredients
  • 1 recipe sweet dough or frozen sweet bread dough ( yeast dough )
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1/4 cup butter
  • 1 tbs flour
  • 1 egg
  • optional vanilla flavor to taste
  • heavy cream
  • Topping:
  • 1/2 cup flour
  • 1/2 cup butter
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • optinal cinnmaon to taste
  • red berry jam as desired ( apricot is nice too )

Directions
  1. Using a sweet roll dough recipe (frozen dough works well),roll dough to fit the bottom of a square pan. after dough has been prepared, risen double and punched down; then fit dough into pan
  2. Spread on top of dough: the mixed togther,sugar, egg, flour, and add a little cream if mixture is too thick
  3. On top of this mixture sprinkle the mixed rivel topping:
  4. ( work into into crumb mixture.)
  5. Then drop a little berry jam here and there,
  6. Then bake at 350 degrees for 30 minutes.
  7. Cool to warm.
  8. Serve warm or room temperature
  9. Note: Dough recipe makes 2, 9 inch cakes but filling/ topping is only for one cake and double to make 2 square pans or one 9 x 13 pan.
