Pamelas Semi-homemade Pasta Sauce Recipe
This is a simple, flavorful, semi-homemade spaghetti sauce. The longer you can let it simmer, the better!

Ingredients
  • EVOO
  • 1/2 green bell pepper, chopped
  • 1/2 red bell pepper, chopped
  • 1/2 yellow onion, chopped
  • handful fresh mushrooms, chopped (opt)
  • 1 carrot chopped (opt)
  • 1 celery stalk, chopped (opt)
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • Dash of kosher salt and pepper
  • tsp basil
  • tsp parsley
  • tsp oregano
  • tsp thyme
  • 1/2 cup red wine
  • 1 jar pasta sauce (or your own simple tomato sauce)
  • (ground meat is optional, sometimes I add it and sometimes I don't)

Directions
  1. In medium stockpot, saute first 6 veggies in EVOO, until soft
  2. You can use any additional veggies you like...or have on hand
  3. add garlic
  4. Add dash kosher salt and pepper
  5. Add herbs
  6. Saute for 1 minute
  7. Turn up heat and add red wine
  8. Cook for 1 minute
  9. Add pasta sauce
  10. (I use Hunts original, because it is simple, tomato sauce, but you can use any jarred sauce, or make your own)
  11. *I usually let it simmer 2 hours over very low heat, but once the sauce is warmed through it is ready. It gets better the longer you let it simmer!
  12. **serve over pasta, or any Italian dish of your choice
  13. ***It's also wonderful to make with ground beef and Italian sausage mixed in, served over wheat pasta!
  14. As you can see it has many variations! Enjoy!

Mmm.... love homemade pasta sauce. I could eat it plain. Thanks :) Maybe this could be our next girls night recipe.. you make the sauce and i bring the fixins for a lasagana? MMmm :)
