  • Real Country Hoe Cake Hoecake
  • 2 cups self rising flour
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1/2 cup vegetable shortening

Directions
  1. Preheat oven to 425.
  2. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
  3. Pour a thin layer of oil to cover the bottom of an eight inch round cake pan and place in oven to heat.
  4. Cut shortening into flour well.
  5. Pour milk in and stir until wet.
  6. Pour into well heated pan and bake for fifteen to twenty minutes or until browned.
  7. Invert onto plate.

Now this is what I've always called hoecake, and what my parents called hoecake-flour bread, not cornbread. But we always cooked it on top the stove on an iron griddle! Can't be beat!


More good uses for my peach butter - this looks great!
