Here's a basic sugar cookie recipe. Makes several doz depending on size. It's not too sweet and great for cut outs and icing. These cookies have a firm outside but a softer inside. My families favorite combination!

Ingredients
  • 3 sticks butter, softened
  • 1 c. sugar
  • 1 c. confectioners sugar
  • 4 eggs
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 tsp lemon extract
  • 5 c. flour
  • 2 tsp baking powder
  • 1 tsp salt

Directions
  1. Cream butter and sugars together until smooth
  2. Beat in eggs one at a time, then vanilla and lemon extracts
  3. Gradually add flour, baking powder, and salt.
  4. Cover and chill dough for at least one hour (I seperate dough and wrap in 4 individual sheets of wax paper)
  5. Preheat oven to 400 degrees
  6. Roll out dough on surface dusted with CONFECTIONERS SUGAR
  7. Best to stick within 1/4 - 1/2 in thick
  8. Cut into desired shapes
  9. Place 1 in apart on parchment lined cookie sheets
  10. Bake 6-8 mins depending on thickness....DO NOT OVER BAKE!
  11. Cool Completely
