How to make it

  • Cream together: shortening, sugar and sour milk/buttermilk.
  • Blend in the 3 well beaten eggs
  • Sift flour once and then measure.
  • Sift flour, baking powder, soda, salt, spices and cocoa all together.
  • Add to the creamed mixture.
  • Add flavoring and nuts.
  • Pour into well greased and floured layer pans.
  • Bake for 30 min. at 350 degrees.
  • Icing
  • Mix all icing ingredients together and beat until fluffy. Frost cake when cooled.

    Hi,
    I am not sure. The pans I use are my round layer cake pans. But you can probably use a 9 x 13 and let it bake a little longer.
