Bechamel Sauce Recipe

Bechamel Sauce Recipe
Great base for a number of creamy sauces, and very good by itself too. Goes great on pasta. Add your favorite seasoning, and put it on your favorite dish to make it better!

Ingredients
  • 1/4 Cup flour
  • 1/4 Cup butter
  • 2 Cups milk
  • Salt, or any other herbs/seasonings to taste

Directions
  1. Melt the butter in a pan.
  2. Sprinkle the flour into the melted butter, and fry until bubbling, but don't burn it.
  3. Add any salt or seasoning to flavor the sauce.
  4. Slowly add the milk, small bits at a time. Don't use too much, or it will solidify the butter until it heats back up.
  5. Keep adding the milk and mix it in small amounts at a time until it's sufficiently thinned out. Add more than the recommended amount for a thinner sauce.
  6. At this point, the basic sauce is done. If you add cheese to it, and perhaps even an egg (temper it first), this makes an excellent cheese sauce for macaroni and cheese. You can warm up the milk before making the sauce in another pan with garlic, cloves, and an onion for a nice added flavor, though strain them first before adding to the butter and flour.

Thank you... I like the note on flavoring the milk. Good basic post.
