Ingredients

How to make it

  • Cut the apples into quarters and remove the cores.
  • Cut eash quarter lengthwise into three or four slices. (Cut out any blemishes or brown spots, but leave the peel on.)
  • Melt the butter over low heat in a skillet with a cover.
  • Add the apples, and stir lightly with a spatula to coat them with butter.
  • Cover and cook for about 5 minutes to soften.
  • Sprinkle the sugar over the apples. (Use the larger quantity if the apples are especially tart.)
  • Turn them again with the spatula to spread the sugar around.
  • Cook over medium-low heat for another 10 to 15 minutes, until the apples are soft and the sugar has begun to thicken into a light syrup.
  • Serve warm.
