Molasses Spice Cookies Recipe

Ingredients

1/2 cup shortening

1/2 cup sugar

1 egg

1/2 cup molasses

2 1/4 cup sifted flour

2 teasp. baking soda

3 teasp.ginger

1 teasp. cinnamon

1/2 teasp. cloves

1/4 teasp. salt

1/3 cup strong coffee

2 TBSP. anise seed

2 teasp. coriander seed, crushed

Directions

cream together shortening and sugar

beat in egg

stir in molasses

sift together flour, soda, ginger, cinnamon, cloves, and salt.

add alternately the flour mixture and then coffee...mix well after each

stir in anise and coriander seed.

drop teaspoonful onto greased baking sheets 2-inches apart

bake at 350" F for 8 to 10 minutes cool on a wire rack

makes 3 1/2 dozen

Vanilla glaze

combine 2 cup powdered sugar, 1 teasp. vanilla and enough milk to make a spreading consistency...

top each coolie with frosting and a walnut half

Thank-you for this recipe,the slight tast of licorice with the anise would be interesting and the cookie its self with the frosting and walnut on top,really nice!
