Five Spice Beef

- marinade shopping list
- 1/2 tsp Chinese Five spice shopping list
- 1 tbsp oyster sauce shopping list
- 1 tbsp soy sauce shopping list
- 2 tbsp Mirim (Sweet Chinese cooking wine) shopping list
- 2 tsp cornflour shopping list
- MAIN DISH shopping list
- 200g Fillet steak, Thinly sliced shopping list
- 150g flat, Thai style, rice noodles shopping list
- 1 tbsp vegetable oil (or olive oil if you prefer) shopping list
- 3cm root ginger. Peeled and finely chopped shopping list
- 4 cloves garlic shopping list
- 1 red bell pepper, sliced julienne style (lengthways) shopping list
- 1 green bell pepper, sliced julienne style (lengthways) shopping list
- 5 or 6 large mushrooms, thinly sliced shopping list
- 1 medium onion, peeled and sliced julienne style (lengthways) shopping list
- 1 tbsp soy sauce shopping list
- 150ml chicken stock shopping list
- 2 spring onions, finely sliced. shopping list
How to make it
- MARINADE
- Mix the marinade ingredients into a bowl. Add the steak and mix well so the beef is thoroughly coated.
- Leave for at least 1 hour, the longer the better, so in the fridge over night is perfect.
- MAIN DISH (The Next Day)
- Cook the noodles according to the instructions on the packet and drain.
- Heat the oil in a large wok and stir fry the Onion, ginger & garlic for 5 mins
- Add the bell peppers and stir fry for 2 mins.
- Add the mushrooms and stir fry for a further 2 mins
- Add the beef with the marinade and stir well
- Add the soy sauce and chicken stock. Bring to a simmer and lower the heat.
- Cook slowly with a lid on the wok until everything is cooked and smelling yummy. This takes about 15 to 20 mins.
- 2 mins before serving add the noodles and mix thoroughly.
- Serve with a sprinkling of spring onions.
