I tried this in a chinese noodle bar and boy is it yummy ! It's really tasty and is guaranteed to impress.

Ingredients
  • MARINADE
  • 1/2 tsp Chinese Five Spice
  • 1 tbsp Oyster Sauce
  • 1 tbsp Soy Sauce
  • 2 tbsp Mirim (Sweet Chinese cooking wine)
  • 2 tsp Cornflour
  • MAIN DISH
  • 200g Fillet Steak, Thinly sliced
  • 150g flat, Thai style, rice noodles
  • 1 tbsp vegetable oil (or olive oil if you prefer)
  • 3cm root ginger. Peeled and finely chopped
  • 4 cloves garlic
  • 1 Red Bell Pepper, sliced julienne style (lengthways)
  • 1 Green Bell Pepper, sliced julienne style (lengthways)
  • 5 or 6 large mushrooms, thinly sliced
  • 1 medium onion, peeled and sliced julienne style (lengthways)
  • 1 tbsp Soy Sauce
  • 150ml Chicken Stock
  • 2 Spring Onions, finely sliced.

Directions
  1. MARINADE
  2. Mix the marinade ingredients into a bowl. Add the steak and mix well so the beef is thoroughly coated.
  3. Leave for at least 1 hour, the longer the better, so in the fridge over night is perfect.
  4. MAIN DISH (The Next Day)
  5. Cook the noodles according to the instructions on the packet and drain.
  6. Heat the oil in a large wok and stir fry the Onion, ginger & garlic for 5 mins
  7. Add the bell peppers and stir fry for 2 mins.
  8. Add the mushrooms and stir fry for a further 2 mins
  9. Add the beef with the marinade and stir well
  10. Add the soy sauce and chicken stock. Bring to a simmer and lower the heat.
  11. Cook slowly with a lid on the wok until everything is cooked and smelling yummy. This takes about 15 to 20 mins.
  12. 2 mins before serving add the noodles and mix thoroughly.
  13. Serve with a sprinkling of spring onions.
