How to make it

  • Trim the crusts from the bread (save for crumbs, or homemade croutons)
  • Roll bread flat between two pieces of waxed paper
  • Spread each slice with softened butter and sprinkle with Parmesan cheese
  • Place 1 spear on corner of bread and roll up
  • Secure with toothpick*
  • Brush each roll with melted butter and sprinkle with cheese
  • Place on a cookie sheet
  • Bake at 400 degrees for about 10-12 minutes
  • *This can be done the day before, refrigerate, then baked the next day

    Yes, I really prefer the fresh cooked asparagus! This is an old recipe, and fresh asparagus might not have been available.
