Ingredients

1 large can or jar sauerkraut

1/2 lb. dry mushrooms that you buy in Euro deli store

1/2 gallon of water sometimes you need more

5-6 garlic cloves that are chopped very tiny or crushed

3/4 cup of flour

2 whole onions chopped

1 stick butter

I like to add a beef or chicken cube

1-1/2 teaspoons black pepper

1 bay leaf

Directions

In a medium bowl soak dry mushrooms covered with warm water for 30 minutes

Making sure all mushrooms are covered

Drain and save water.

Chop mushrooms but not too small

Put sauerkraut in large pot with 1/2 gallon water and add all ingredients except flour, butter and onion - these are to make what is called "za praska" to be added later and boil for one hour in covered pot

Fry stick of butter in pan until just brown

Add 3/4 cup flour and fry again but don't burn

When almost brown, add onions and garlic and fry again

When onions are light brown, add strained water saved from soaking of mushrooms

You must strain only 1/2 cup of the water because sometimes there is little bits

Mix out lumps and add to pot only after pot has boiled for one hour

Add beef or chicken cube

Cook for 1 hour more and stir

This is so good with fresh bake bread
