Chocolate Cherry Cookies Recipe

Ingredients

1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour

1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder

1/4 tsp baking powder

1/4 tsp baking soda

1/4 tsp salt

1/2 cup butter - softened

1 cup sugar

1 egg

1 1/2 tsps vanilla

36 maraschino cherries

1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips

1/2 cup sweetened condensed milk

Directions

Drain cherries well - reserve juice - set aside

Frosting:- Place chocolate chips & condensed milk in a small saucepan & heat on med/low stirring constantly until chocolate has melted & mixture is well combined. Set aside

Sift together flour, cocoa, baking powder, baking soda & salt

In small bowl of electric mixer, beat together butter & sugar until well combined

Add egg & vanilla & beat well until fluffy

On low speed, gradually add flour, mix well

Shape about 3/4 tblsp of mixture into balls & place about 1" apart on ungreased cookie sheet

Press thumb down into the center of each ball

Bake in 350 degree oven for approx 10 - 11 mins or until cookie is slightly firm on the edges

Remove from the oven & immediately press 1 cherry into the thumprint of each cookie

Let cool on cookie sheet for about 6 mins

Spoon about 3/4 tsp of frosting over top of each warm cookie covering the cherry - the frosting will flow down over the still warm cherry

Remove cookies to a wire rack to cool completely
