How to make it

  • In a small bowl, combine TVP and salt.
  • Stir in boiling water, liquid smoke, pepper and garlic powder, let sit 10 minutes.
  • Combine BBQ sauce, ketchup, remaining tbsp water, ginger and cayenne powder, stirring smooth.
  • Add to rehydrated TVP and allow to sit 15 minutes or until needed.
  • Serve chilled or room temperature over a bed of lettuce.

    TVP is textured vegetable protein, a fat free, pretty much tasteless dry meal made of soy. Bob's Red Mill is a popular brand (and the one I use), though it is also available in bulk at many health and bulk stores. Hope that helps!
