Ingredients

How to make it

  • Stir together first 4 ingredients in a large bowl until blended.
  • Combine flour and next 3 ingredients; add to butter mixture, stirring until blended. Stir in apple slices and 1 cup walnuts. Spread into a greased 13- x 9-inch pan.
  • Bake at 350° for 45 minutes or until a wooden pick inserted in center comes out clean. Cool completely in pan on a wire rack. Spread with Cream Cheese Frosting; sprinkle with walnuts, if desired.

    I have made this cake in the past from the original printed magazine and it was fabulous. I lost my paper copy and tried making it from the online recipe (4 times) and it was undercooked on the inside and crusty like a cookie on the outside. Did you get the same results? I have an e-mail out to Southern LIving because there is something off with this recipe. Hopefully they will reply because this is a wonderful cake....

    PEETA this is fabulous i love it esp the chunky apple kind of like raw apple cake yummmmmmmmmm and the cream cheese it looks wonderful
