Bean Chowder Recipe
A hearty meal that's great with crackers, cornbread or hush puppies.

Ingredients
  • 1 1/2 T minced onion
  • 2 cloves garlic, pressed
  • 1 T oil
  • 1 can diced tomato
  • 2 - 14 1/2 oz cans Swanson seasoned chicken broth or vegetable broth
  • 1 3/4 c water
  • 1/2 t each: basil, oregano and celery salt or to taste
  • 1/4 t pepper
  • 2 -15 oz cans navy beans
  • 1 c uncooked macaroni
  • 1/2 T parsley flakes

Directions
  1. In a large saucepan, saute garlic in oil until tender.
  2. Add onions and stir.
  3. Add the diced tomatoes.
  4. Siimmer for 5 minutes.
  5. Add the broth, water and seasonings.
  6. Bring to a boil.
  7. Cook for 5 minutes.
  8. Add beans, macaroni and parsley; return to a boil.
  9. Reduce heat; simmer, uncovered, for 15 minutes or until macaroni is tender.
