Omas Sauerkirschen Torte- Sour Cherry Cake Recipe

Ingredients

Base:

4 60g eggs or 5 50g eggs

100g sugar

250g mixed nuts

100g grated chocolate or 3 heaped tbspns chocolate powder

Vanilla essence

Filling:

3 bottles of sour cherries (big bottles)

cornflour

Serving:

Greek yoghurt or sour cream

Directions

Base: Cream eggs and sugar with vanilla essence.

Fold in nuts and chocolate.

Pour into greased 30 cm baking form.

Bake for 20-30 minutes in a 220 deg C oven.

Allow to cool before adding filling.

Filling: Pour cherries with juice from one bottle into saucepan and warm slowly.

Mix with cornflour with some of the reserved to a paste.

Thicken sour cherries mix with cornflour until reasonably firm.

Add more juice if necessary.

Allow to cool to lukewarm temperature.

Pour into cooked and cooled base.

Serve: with natural yoghurt or sour cream.

This is Very popular in Germany so I have added it all my German groups. My Aunt made this all the time but I'm just not a big cakes/pies fan.
