How to make it

  • Wash plums, dry, pit and cut into small cubes
  • Mix sugar and cronstarch and mix into plums,
  • Add vanilla and set aside for 10 minutes.
  • Make topping.
  • Into a large bowl combine sugar, flour , salt and baking powder.
  • Cut in cubed cold butter or margarine into a crumb like mixture as for pie dough
  • Add enough liquid to make a moist dough that clings together, but may be a bit sticky.
  • Place plums with any liquid into a 9x 13 pan.
  • Form dumplings with hands and place evenly acrooss plums in pan.
  • Bake in a preheated 375 oven about one hour or until topping is golden and plums juices bubble up
  • Cool on rack about 1 hour before serving
  • Of course serve with whipped cream, ice cream etc.
