How to make it

  • Soak onions in cold water for 30 minutes and drain well and pat dry
  • Melt butter in skillet over med high heat and stir in sugar, add bacon and cook a few minutes till crisp
  • Stir in the water and vinegar and add onions.
  • Lower heat to a simmer and cook and stir often until all the liquid evaporates and onions are softened. about 50 minutes
