Grandmas Gingerbread

- 2 1/2 Cups sifted all-purpose flour shopping list
- 1/2 Cup sugar shopping list
- 1 1/2 Teaspoons baking soda shopping list
- 3/4 Teaspoon salt shopping list
- 1 Teaspoon cinnamon shopping list
- 1 Teaspoon ginger shopping list
- 1/2 Teaspoon cloves shopping list
- 1/2 Cup shortening (may subs. butter or margarine) shopping list
- 1 Cup water shopping list
- 1 Cup light molasses (or Mrs. butterworth's syrup) shopping list
- 1 egg, unbeaten shopping list
How to make it
- Sift dry ingredients and spices into mixing bowl. Drop in shortening.
- Add half of water, molasses and egg and beat 200 strokes.
- Scrape bowl down with beater, add remaining water, and beat another 200 strokes.
- Bake in greased 9 x 13 x 2 inch baking dish or pan in moderate 350 degree F. oven for 45 minutes.
- Serve warm with butter or cool with whipped cream.
