How to make it

  • PIE CRUST..................
  • To make pie crust in this 1944 recipe, sift the flour , salt, and baking powder together.
  • Cut in shortening until it has been evenly mixed.
  • Stir in chopped walnuts.
  • Combine water and vinegar, add just enough flour mixture to make a stiff dough.
  • Place dough in a 9 inch pie tin and flute edges

  • FILLING ................
  • Beat the eggs slightly, then add your maple syrup and salt…
  • Gradually stir in the scalded milk.
  • Add the flavoring.
  • Pour the mixture into your unbaked pie shell.
  • Bake at 450 degrees F. for 10 minutes;
  • Reduce heat to 350 degrees f. and bake 25 to 30 minutes longer or until the custard is set………
  • Make sure the pie is cooled before serving
  • Serves 6-8 depending on size cut

    This sounds good, and using the maple syrup from the 80-90 year old man here who taps his own trees and boils down his own syrup I'm sure it'll be spectacular.
