How to make it

  • Place the yeast and milk in a bowl, mix to dissolve and stand in a warm place , draught-free place for 10 minutes or until frothy….
  • Place flour, sugar , salt cinnamon, and cloves in a bowl and mix to combine.
  • Add yeast mixture and butter and mix to form a soft dough.
  • Knead dough on a lightly floured surface for 5- 8 minutes or until smooth and elastic
  • Place in a lightly oiled bowl, cover with plastic food wrap and stand for 10 minutes
  • Divide dough into 4 portions and roll each into an 8x30 cm ( 3 1/2 inches x 12 inch strip
  • Spoon apple down the center of each strip and sprinkle with a little extra cinnamon ………
  • Fold length wise and seal edges
  • Roll each strip in a sausage shape, then twist 2 rolls together and place on a greased cookie sheet.
  • Repeat with remaining dough
  • Cover the twists with plastic wrap and let stand for 20 minutes or until it is doubled in size….
  • Bake at 350 degrees F ( 180 c) for 20- 25 minutes or until golden and cooked through…….
  • To make the icing ………..
  • Place powdered sugar ( icing sugar) , coconut, butter, vanilla in a bowl and mix to combine
  • Then mix in enough water to make an icing with a thin consistency
  • Spread icing over twists while they are still hot…..
  • Makes 2 loaves………..
  • Tip……. When shaping the twists lightly touch the base of each twist at the end with wet fingertips and press gently onto baking sheet
  • This will prevent the twists from shrinking and curling up during the final rising …………..enjoy
