Spicy Coconut Apple Twists

- 1/2-- ounces fresh yeast ( 15 g)......... shopping list
- 3/4-- cup warm milk( 185 g)......... shopping list
- 2- cups ( 250 g) flour sifted...... shopping list
- 2- tablespoons sugar..... shopping list
- 1/2--teaspoon salt........ shopping list
- 1/2- teaspoon ground cinnamon....... shopping list
- 1/4- teaspoon ground cloves...... shopping list
- 1, 1/2 - ounces of butter melted ( 45g)......... shopping list
- 3/4- cup ( 170g) canned apple slices.......... shopping list
- 1/4- teaspoon ground cinnamon plus extra............. shopping list
- coconut icing ……… shopping list
- 3/4 cup ( 125g) icing sugar sifted ( powdered sugar)............. shopping list
- 4- -tablespoons desiccated coconut........ shopping list
- 1/2- ounce butter ( 15 g) .......... shopping list
- 1/2- teaspoon vanilla extract............ shopping list
- 3- 4 -tablespoons hot water............. shopping list
How to make it
- Place the yeast and milk in a bowl, mix to dissolve and stand in a warm place , draught-free place for 10 minutes or until frothy….
- Place flour, sugar , salt cinnamon, and cloves in a bowl and mix to combine.
- Add yeast mixture and butter and mix to form a soft dough.
- Knead dough on a lightly floured surface for 5- 8 minutes or until smooth and elastic
- Place in a lightly oiled bowl, cover with plastic food wrap and stand for 10 minutes
- Divide dough into 4 portions and roll each into an 8x30 cm ( 3 1/2 inches x 12 inch strip
- Spoon apple down the center of each strip and sprinkle with a little extra cinnamon ………
- Fold length wise and seal edges
- Roll each strip in a sausage shape, then twist 2 rolls together and place on a greased cookie sheet.
- Repeat with remaining dough
- Cover the twists with plastic wrap and let stand for 20 minutes or until it is doubled in size….
- Bake at 350 degrees F ( 180 c) for 20- 25 minutes or until golden and cooked through…….
- To make the icing ………..
- Place powdered sugar ( icing sugar) , coconut, butter, vanilla in a bowl and mix to combine
- Then mix in enough water to make an icing with a thin consistency
- Spread icing over twists while they are still hot…..
- Makes 2 loaves………..
- Tip……. When shaping the twists lightly touch the base of each twist at the end with wet fingertips and press gently onto baking sheet
- This will prevent the twists from shrinking and curling up during the final rising …………..enjoy
