How to make it

  • Sift flour with baking powder and salt.
  • Cut in shortening.
  • Make a "well" in the center of the dry ingredients: add milk all at once and stir until just mixed.
  • Turn out onto lighlty floured pastry cloth-DO NOT KNEAD.
  • Roll into rectangle about 1/2 inch thick.
  • Cut into 2 inch squares and place on greased baking sheet.
  • Bake at 450 degree oven for 12 to 15 minutes of until nicely browned.

    How'd I miss these, Micellem??? I love whole wheat - another one to try...where will it stop?!? The cast iron skillet gave them a wonderful "crusty, crunchy" look - I love it!

    I made this on a cast iron griddle while camping this weekend. They were fantastic--tender, flaky, and they split perfectly. Recommended.
