Ingredients
  • 1-1/2 cups milk
  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1-1/2 cups (3 sticks) butter (no substitutes), softened
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla

Directions
  1. In a medium saucepan, whisk together milk and flour until no lumps remain. Stirring constantly, cook over low-medium heat until thick. Remove from heat and place plastic wrap directly on the surface of the mixture to keep a “skin” from forming. Cool. In a large mixing bowl, cream butter. Gradually add sugar and beat well until light and fluffy and mixture isn’t grainy. This may take several minutes or more and the mixture will be very fluffy and look like whipped cream. Gradually add cooled milk mixture and beat 4 mins. or until light and fluffy. Add vanilla and beat well. This makes enough to fill and frost a 9-inch two layer cake.
