Ingredients

How to make it

  • In a medium saucepan, whisk together milk and flour until no lumps remain. Stirring constantly, cook over low-medium heat until thick. Remove from heat and place plastic wrap directly on the surface of the mixture to keep a “skin” from forming. Cool. In a large mixing bowl, cream butter. Gradually add sugar and beat well until light and fluffy and mixture isn’t grainy. This may take several minutes or more and the mixture will be very fluffy and look like whipped cream. Gradually add cooled milk mixture and beat until light and fluffy - this may take several minutes, so don't try to rush this step. Add vanilla and beat well. This makes enough to fill and frost a 9-inch two layer cake.

GRS, I'm sorry my recipe did not work for you and can't imagine what went wrong. It is frustrating to waste ingredients on a recipe that doesn't work - been there, done that myself. I can say this recipe comes out perfectly every time if the directions are followed exactly. The slightest deviation can affect the outcome, so I hope you try it again and have better luck. Thanks for trying it the first time.
