One of my all-time favorite cookies has to be this gem! The bite that the ginger lends to this cookie is wonderful. Be sure to use a good grade of molasses in this recipe. Servings dependent on confectioner.

Ingredients
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon ground cloves
  • 1 teaspoon ground ginger
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 3 teaspoons baking soda
  • 3/4 cup Crisco BUT you know how I feel about butter
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 large egg, beaten
  • 1/4 cup molasses
  • sugar for rolling

Directions
  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.
  2. Combine flour, salt, cloves, ginger, cinnamon and baking soda in bowl.
  3. Cream together the Crisco/butter and sugar until fluffy in bowl of mixer.
  4. Blend in the beaten egg and the molasses.
  5. Stir in the flour until blended.
  6. Shape dough into 1 1/2" balls.
  7. Roll balls in white sugar.
  8. Place 3" apart on UNgreased baking sheet.
  9. Flatten balls with your fingers.
  10. Sprinkle with more sugar, if desired.
  11. Bake for 8 to 10 minutes.
  12. Remove from oven.
  13. Let sit for 1 minute before removing from pan
  14. Start again.

I was in need of more ginger cookies/snaps. I get motion sickness and the ginger helps so I always take some with me when I travel. Thanks for the post.
