Fresh Pumpkin
From tuilelaith 16 years agoIngredients
How to make it
- Wash the pumpkins.
- Cut them in half.
- Clean out the inside of all membranes and seeds, placing them into a strainer for cleaning later. (I save the seeds for later, u do not have too.)
- Spray the inside lightly with oil, I use the butter flavor, but you use what you want. My Mom used to use a paper towel with corn oil on it to wipe the inside of the pumpkin.
- Turn the "bowl" upside down on a cookie sheet.
- Cook at 350 until the meat of the pumpkin is tender.
- Take out of the oven and let cool. You do not want to burn you fingers to peel this.
- Peel with a knife when cool enough.
- Mash the pumpkin with you favorite method, I hand mash with a potatoe masher.
- Use as you would any canned pumpkin, but this is better!

Thank you for this. We have a few 15 & 18lb pumpkins on the front porch & now I'll have a proven method for cooking them.
You're the tops!

Great explaination. Wish I'd known about this years ago when my mother and I tried making fresh pumpkin pies. I had really sore fingers from trying to peal the pumpkin. Maybe I'll have to try it again. Thanks
