How to make it

  • Make pastry (if using).
  • Divide into 6 balls.
  • Flatten and wrap in plastic, separately.
  • Chill 30 minutes.
  • Preheat oven to 400 degrees F.
  • Peel and core apples.
  • Mix together the butter, brown sugar and cardamom.
  • Fill apples.
  • Roll pastry to 8" rounds.
  • Place apple on top.
  • Gently press dough around sides of apples.
  • Leave opening at top.
  • Place apples on a parchment-lined baking sheet.
  • Chill for 30 minutes.
  • Bake in the middle of the oven for 45 minutes.
  • Cool for 10 minutes.
  • Serve with French vanilla ice cream.
