German Chocolate Thumbprint Cookies Recipe

I haven't made these in forever but just ran across the recipe so I thought I'd share.

Ingredients
  • Topping
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 cup evaporated milk
  • 1 stick butter, softened
  • 1 tsp. vanilla
  • 3 egg yolks, beaten
  • 1 1/2 cups flaked coconut
  • 1 1/2 cups pecans, chopped
  • Cookies
  • 1 box German chocolate cake mix, pudding included
  • 1/3 cup butter, melted

Directions
  1. Preheat oven to 350
  2. In saucepan, add sugar, milk, butter, vanilla, and egg yolks and cook over medium heat 10-13 minutes until thick and bubbly,
  3. stirring often
  4. Stir in coconut and pecans
  5. Let cool to room temp.
  6. Reserve 1 1/4 cups of mixture
  7. In mixing bowl, add cookie ingredients and remaining topping mixture
  8. Stir until moistened and combined
  9. Shape dough into 1 inch balls
  10. Place 2 inches apart on ungreased cookie sheets
  11. Make indentation in center of each ball with thumb
  12. Fill with 1/2 tsp. of topping mixture
  13. Bake for 10-13 minutes
  14. Cool on rack completely
