Southern Jalapeno Hushpuppies Recipe

Ingredients
  • 1 cup self-rising cornmeal
  • 1/2 cup self-rising flour
  • 1/2 tsp sugar
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/4 tsp sage
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped
  • 3 whole green onions, finely chopped
  • 2 tbs jalapeno peppers, finely chopped
  • 1/2 cup whole kernel corn, drained
  • 1 egg
  • 3/4 cup milk

Directions
  1. Combine dry ingredients with onions, jalapeno peppers and corn.
  2. Beat egg until creamy. Stir egg into mixture.
  3. Gradually add milk, (amount of milk may vary.) Let mixture set for 10 minutes.
  4. Mixture should be thick enough to drop from a teaspoon to form 1-inch balls.
  5. Deep fry in hot fat (375 degrees) until lightly browned, about 3-4 minutes.
