Ingredients

How to make it

  • With a round cookie cutter, or knife, take the center from the hard roll, taking care not to cut through the bottom. It should make a large enough crater to hold an egg.
  • Crack a raw egg into the crater and bake in the oven at 325 degrees for 20 minutes.
  • Cover with a slice of cheese and cook for an additional 5 minutes.
  • Serve and eat!

I've been eating them since the late 60's,
we use hamburger buns, cut the hole in the
top, butter the insides, put back together,
drop a jumbo egg in the hole, bake in the
oven, add cheese last. The tastes of childhood dishes are calling.

Just in time! Our grandson is staying over soon. He'll need a slice of ham ... under the egg before baking ... or under the cheese after baking the egg? I'll have to ponder that.
