Swedish Glogg

- 10 whole black or brown cardamom pods, cracked shopping list
- 1 or 2 cinnamon sticks, 3" long shopping list
- 1/2 oz crystalized ginger (1 Tbs) shopping list
- 10 whole cloves shopping list
- 1 tsp dried orange peel (I used fresh orange peel) shopping list
- 1/2 cup golden or dark raisins shopping list
- 1/2 cup sugar shopping list
- 1 750-ml bottle good red wine, such as a cabernet savignon (I used an inexpensive burgandy and was great...) shopping list
- 1/4 cup vodka (optional) shopping list
How to make it
- Combine the cardamom pods, cinnamon sticks, ginger, gloves, orange peel, raisins, sugar and wine in a large sacepan over medium or medium-low heat Stir to mix well; add the vodka, if using. Cook until it is warmed through and small bubbles begin to form at the edgees; do not let come to a boil The glogg will be fragrant.
- Cover and let the mixture steep overnight at room temp.
- When ready to serve, strain the mixture and reheat over low heat until warmed through. Serve warm.
- (I'll admit, we didn't wait for it over night... Could be even better!)
