How to make it

  • Mix first seven ingredients in a bowl. Stir well.
  • Add ground beef and ground pork. Shape in to 1 1/2 inch balls, arranging on broiler tray. They may be placed quite close together. I leave one row open at the end to allow for turning.
  • Brown quickly under broiler, turning once.
  • If you are cooking right away, pile balls in to five quart slow cooker. Otherwise, spread meatballs in a single layer inside a large ziploc bag. Date the bag and freeze.
  • For the sauce, measure flour and salt in saucepan. Whisk in consomme and water gradually until no lumps remain. Heat until it boils and thickens a bit. Pour over meatballs. Cover. Cook on low for 8 to 10 hours or on high for 4 to 5 hours. Makes 57 meatballs.
