Baked Beans

- 1 pound navy beans, uncooked shopping list
- 2 tablespoons molasses shopping list
- 4 teaspoons salt shopping list
- a few whole cloves (optional) shopping list
- 4 tablespoons brown sugar shopping list
- 1 1/3 cup tomato paste shopping list
- 2 onions shopping list
How to make it
- Cover beans generously with water and soak overnight.
- Drain beans, put in kettle and boil for 30 minutes or until the beans are tender.
- Add the sugar, molasses, tomato paste, and salt.
- Mix.
- Cut the onions into quarters; place in an oiled pan or casserole dish.
- Add the beans and bake in a slow oven (300 degrees F or 150 degree C) for three of four hours.
- The time of baking can be decreased by cooking at a higher temperature.
- Slower cooking brings out more flavor.
- Check beans occasionally, adding more water if they become too dry.

A fairly good baked bean recipe. Tends to want to be on the tomatoey side. It takes a whole lot more time than 30 minutes to boil the beans to tender.
