Bee Sting Cake

This is a tried and true recipe. it is an easy verson of the German bee sting cake. It doesn't use yeast and is more moist.

Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Grease and flour the bottom of a 13 x 9 inch pan.
To make topping:
In a medium saucepan, heat sugar, butter, and 2 T milk to a boil, stirring constantly. Boil 1 minute. Remove from heat. Stir in almonds and extract. Cool.

To make cake:
Beat cottage cheese, milk, almond extract and eggs until w ell mixed (mixture will not be smooth). Add cake mix. Blend 1 minute until moistened.
Spread batter in pan. Spread topping over.
Bake 35 to 45 minutes.
Serve warm or cool.

Hi Joe - I haven't tried this receipe yet (I got it from our newspaper) but I wanted to save it and try it this weekend! I think the whipped cream in the middle sounds good too. Thanks, TJ

I really like "Bienenstich" the German name for this. I only know it with whipped cream between 2 layers of cake with the almond topping. I bet this version is really tasty.
