How to make it

  • Sift together flour, soda, baking powder and salt.
  • Cut in the batter or shortening with a pastry blender or two knives until coarsely textured and reasonably well distributed.
  • Add the sourdough starter and mix gentlly.
  • Turn the dough onto a lightly floured board and knead about 10 times.
  • Pat the dough out into a rough rectangle and then roll it out with a rolling pin until it's about 1/2 inch thick.
  • Cut into biscuits in shape/size desired and place on greased baking sheet. Re-form scraps and roll out again to make more biscuits.
  • Cover and let rise about 30 minutes.
  • Preheat the oven to 425F.
  • Brush the tops of the biscuits with melted butter just before putting them in the oven.
  • Bake 7-10 minutes.

Making the biscuits was easy. It made almost 20 biscuits which was nice. My only compliant was that the biscuits didn't rise like I thought they would and they were pretty dense. Still tasty just not quite what I was looking for.

I recently found someone's Starter recipe on here and have been looking for recipes to use with it before I make it - I remember my mom's fantastci Sourdough starter that resulted in such delicious breads and baked goods - thank you for sharing this biscuit recipe!
