French Onion Soup Recipe
i like to make this in the fall when it turns cold

Ingredients
  • 3-lrg yellow onions(sliced in thin circles)
  • 2-tblspn unsalted butter
  • 2-tblspns flour
  • 4-dashes worcestershire sauce
  • 1/2cup cabernet sauvignon
  • 1-box beef stock
  • fresh ground pepper
  • water
  • 1 french bread
  • swiss cheese(sliced)
  • parmessiano reggiano(shredded)

Directions
  1. in stock pot add bbuter then sliced onions on medium slowly brown onions,then add flour til blended in about a minute,then add worcstershire sauce,beef stock and pepper,and equal box of water to stock,bring to a boil and simmer ,when simmer starts add wine.
  2. take oven safe bowl spoon in soup cut thick piece of french bread lay in middle of soup,lay 2 slices swiss cheese on bread and shredded parmessiano reggianoplace on middle shelf under broiler and watch til cheese slightly turns golden brown
  3. take out let cool for 5 minutes and serve

This is so much better than my bland version. I like that you use a good wine and i use plenty of good fresh parmesan cheese and the best French bread I can find. Thanks for this great recipe!

Alterations


I love onion soup. I just made this with one alteration. I added about 1/2 cup of soy sauce. I have a very good soy sauce from the Philippines. It is called Silver Swan soy sauce. Really quite good not salty like some of the soy sauces.
