French Beef Au Gratin

- 1 1/2 lb. steak shopping list
- 4 cups sweet onions, chopped shopping list
- 1/2 cup butter shopping list
- 3 Tablespoons plain flour shopping list
- 1 Tablespoon packed brown sugar shopping list
- 1 tsp cumin shopping list
- 1 tsp salt shopping list
- 1/2 tsp black pepper shopping list
- 24 oz. beef broth shopping list
- 2 cups cooked curly noodles shopping list
- 4 oz. shredded mozzarella and Parmesan shopping list
How to make it
- Freeze steak a while until it's easily cut, and then slice it as thin as possible.
- Chop onions.
- Melt butter over medium heat. Saute onions until caramelized, 15-20 minutes. With slotted spoon, remove onions to bowl.
- Brown beef.
- In small bowl, mix flour, sugar, and spices.
- Return onions and any juices to pan.
- Add 1 cup broth then flour mixture to pan; stir 1 minute till bubbly.
- Gradually add rest of broth (I don't usually add the whole 24 oz.), stirring to scrape drippings; simmer 10 minutes.
- Serve over noodles; top with shredded cheese.
