South African Malva pudding

- 1 egg shopping list
- 250g sugar shopping list
- I tablespoon of apricot jam shopping list
- 250g flour shopping list
- 1 teaspoon of bicarbonate of soda shopping list
- 1 pinch of salt shopping list
- 1 tablespoon butter shopping list
- 1 teaspoon of vinegar shopping list
- 250ml milk shopping list
- SAUCE FOR MALVA PUDDING shopping list
- 170g caster sugar shopping list
- 225ml milk shopping list
- 225ml double cream shopping list
- 25g butter shopping list
- 1 teaspoon of vanilla essence shopping list
How to make it
- For the base, beat the egg and sugar together well and beat in the apricot jam.
- In a separate bowl, sift the flour together with the bicarbonate of soda and salt.
- In another dish, melt the butter and add the vinegar and the milk.
- Add the liquids (butter and vinegar and milk) to the egg mixture (the base) with the flour.
- Beat well and bake in a greased pie dish at 180C for ½ to ¾ hour.
- For the Sauce:
- Melt together all the ingredients for the sauce and
- then pour over the Malva pudding as soon as it comes out of the oven.
- You can prick the pudding with a toothpick so that the sauce permeates the whole pudding.
- Serve the Malva pudding hot in a bowl or on a plate with cream drizzled around.
