a great cough syrup. Can use wild violets and the recipe would only cost pennies a bottle.

Ingredients
  • 1/2 plus 2 T violet flowers, cleaned
  • 1 quart water
  • 7-1/2 cups sugar

Directions
  1. Remove the little white part at the base of the petals.
  2. Then steep the petals in hot water overnight.
  3. The next day, filter this infusion and melt the sugar into it, slowly, until you get a syrupy consistency.
  4. Use: Take 4 tablespoons a day for light coughs and sore throats.

I have so few wild violets in my little yard I would hate to pick them for this-otherwise, I'd try it. Cool idea.
