Irish Soda Bread Recipe
This is a more traditional not overly sweet one, without fruit. I love it! You can always add raisins if you must...

Ingredients
  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 Tbs baking powder
  • 1/3 cup sugar
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • 1 egg, slightly beaten
  • 2 cups buttermilk
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted

Directions
  1. Preheat oven to 325 degrees F. Grease a 9x5" loaf pan.
  2. Sift together flour, baking powder, sugar, salt, and baking soda in a deep bowl.
  3. Blend eggs and buttermilk. Add all at once to the flour mixture. Mix until just moistened. Stir in butter and mix well.
  4. Turn into greased pan.
  5. Bake for 65-70 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in center comes out clean. Cool. Wrap in foil for serveral hours or overnight for best flavor.
