Crab Toasts Recipe

Crab Toasts Recipe
This recipe is from the 1950's when Kraft would do commercials on television that featured their products in recipes they showcased. I've made this for so many gatherings, it's almost expected of me to bring it now...hot, tasty, cheesy - unless you ... More

Ingredients
  • 1 (6 ounce) can crabmeat, drained and flaked (use a good quality crabmeat - I don't recommend using imitation crab for this)
  • 1 (5 ounce) jar Old English Sharp Cheese Spread (a Kraft product, sometimes found refrigerated and sometimes on the shelf, depending on the grocery store)
  • 2 tablespoons butter, softened
  • 2 tablespoons mayonnaise (do not substitute)
  • ¼ teaspoon garlic salt
  • ¼ teaspoon Old Bay seafood seasoning (optional, but nice addition to flavor)
  • 24 slices cocktail pumpernickel bread, toasted**

Directions
  1. Mix together all of the ingredients except the bread slices.
  2. Spread one side of toasted bread with the crabmeat mixture; place bread on cookie sheet.
  3. Broil until the tops are just lightly browned.
  4. Serve immediately.
  5. **To toast the small cocktail bread slices easily, line a cookie sheet with the bread slices; place in a preheated 425 degree oven.
  6. Watch bread carefully, as bottoms should brown first.
  7. When bottoms are slightly toasted, flip the slices and continue to bake until other side is lightly toasted.

How much easier could this possibly get! Sounds scrumptious and a great time-saver for parties and get-togethers!

Wow, great post! I think it would go great with some chowder. Delicous Krum! You did it again!

Old friends are always welcome at parties. Having said that... my first thought was "Crab toasts for crabby people"... like me. Mmmm.

I love appetizers, I could eat these for dinner. I had lots of time in the 50's to watch TV, how did I miss this one. This just sounds so good and easy....:)
