This is actually a BULK recipe, and makes up about 4 1/2 pounds of bread. Great done in a mixer, but it can also be done by hand.

Ingredients
  • 1 1/2 cups Water (more as needed for ease of dough handling)
  • 1 pkg bakers' yeast
  • 2 1/2 lb Bread flour
  • 1 oz Salt
  • 1 oz Sugar
  • 2 oz Nonfat milk powder
  • 1 1/2 oz Shortening

Directions
  1. Mixing the dough:
  2. 10 minutes at 2nd speed.
  3. OR
  4. mix by hand, although there will be a lot of mixture to work through!
  5. Proofing:
  6. 1 hour at 80°F or until doubled in bulk
  7. Makeup:
  8. Pan loaves in whatever shape you prefer.
  9. This dough will also make rolls.
  10. Baking:
  11. 400°F until golden brown and loaves sound hollow when tapped.

  13. VARIATION:
  14. Whole Wheat Bread
  15. Prepare basic White Pan Bread using
  16. Bread flour 1 lb ---- 40%
  17. Whole wheat flour 1 lb 8 oz ------ 60%
