Easy Anise - Seed Cookies Recipe

Instead of just leaving a thumbprint
in the cookies , flavor a thin pink and white frosting with anise extract and make frosting puddles in the
depressions. Then let set to harden.
Or place a jelly bean or kiss in the center instead!

Ingredients
- 3/4 cup shortening
- 3/4 cup butter
- 2 cups sugar
- 2 large eggs
- 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
- 4 cups flour
- 1 1/2 teaspoons salt
- 1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
- 4 teaspoons anise seed
Directions
- Combine ingredients in order given.
- Roll into balls and push down center with thumb.
- Bake at 350°F for 10 minutes or set
- Cool on rack, frost if desired
- Yield and baking time depend on large the rolled balls are
