Easy Anise - Seed Cookies

Instead of just leaving a thumbprint in the cookies , flavor a thin pink and white frosting with anise extract and make frosting puddles in the depressions. Then let set to harden. Or place a jelly bean or kiss in the center instead!
Ingredients
- 3/4 cup shortening shopping list
- 3/4 cup butter shopping list
- 2 cups sugar shopping list
- 2 large eggs shopping list
- 2 teaspoons vanilla extract shopping list
- 4 cups flour shopping list
- 1 1/2 teaspoons salt shopping list
- 1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder shopping list
- 4 teaspoons anise seed shopping list
How to make it
- Combine ingredients in order given.
- Roll into balls and push down center with thumb.
- Bake at 350°F for 10 minutes or set
- Cool on rack, frost if desired
- Yield and baking time depend on large the rolled balls are
